Zack Turner Interview 2008

Q. So what is your art background?

I’m an all-around artist. I paint, draw, sculpt etc.  I have a BFA in Fine Arts with a concentration in computer art, from SUNY University at Buffalo.

Q. Who are some of your art influences (comics or otherwise)?

Kristen Perry (my mentor), Frank Cho, Terry Dodson, and the Late great Mike Wieringo.

Q. And how did you start working on Adam Zero?

I actually applied for the job through Digital Webbing.  I did a test page for Marc, and lo and behold he liked it, a short time later I started on the issue.

Q. You’ve done two issues and are working on a third of those which has been your favorite?

Hrm, that’s tough.   I think I like the lighting in the first book I’ve done.  Though there are things I really like in the second book I did, but I like doing various scenes, keeps me challenged.

Q. Which of the villains did you most enjoy working on and why?

Professor Plague, He’s orange!  Orange is a fun color to work with, and plays well with certain greens and other colors.

Q. You’ve seen issues that have yet to see print any hints you’d like to drop?

Hrmm…   I try to look at the script only for color references so that the artwork tells the story.  That and I really want to read it once it’s printed to get the full experience.

Q. So who is your favorite character in the series and why?

Kitana, Green Lady with pointy ears!  I don’t know it’s just more fun to color beautiful woman, haha!

Q. Any plans on doing more Adam Zero?

It all depends!  I’d be interested in doing more, maybe even drawing, and coloring some pinups, and covers as well.

Q. So what else are you working on now?

I’ve done two pitches; one of the most recent was a pitch featuring Tom Pinchuk, and Kurt Belcher.   I’m also working on a few short comics of my own as well.  Adam Zero is one of my first published works.

Q. Are you reading any comics now?

I don’t read a lot of comics currently.  I do enjoy reading Runaways, and Thor.  However, I’ve been trying to read more Robert Kirkman Books, such as invincible, Capes, and The Walking Dead.  I’m a big Zombie book fan (Though for some strange reason not marvel Zombies so much.)

Quick hits

Marvel or DC?

 After “One More Day”?  DC.

Invisible Woman or Wonder Woman?

Hah… Depends on who’s drawing and writing.  If it was Waid/Wieringo, definitely Invisible Woman, but if it’s Dodson, drawing Wonder Woman… eh… that’s a tough call!

Who’s stronger Superman or Hulk?

Hulk.

Star Wars or Star Trek?

Doctor Who!  He goes where no man has gone before in a galaxy long time ago, far far away.

Batman or Spider-Man?

Pre-One More Day Spider-man.  (Yeah I really don’t like it that much)

Aliens or Alien?

Space Balls, you know that scene with in the diner?

Kirby Surfer or Mobius Surfer?

I don’t.. know!
